I have to get this story out. When I work out, I like to take care of business. Get in,get out, work hard, etc. The gym I train at is a local hometown kind of place. They have a lot of guys and gals who are serious about their training. They have a gym with machines and free weights whose intended use is for the BB,soccer moms and dad's, etc. They also have a dedicated powerlifting room and CF style room. I use the latter two and rarely go into the general gym. The probLem I have is that we have a lot of Navy dudes who use the place. Not that I don't appreciate them, etc. bUT I always have to fight for a rack in the PL room because a big group of them come in at once and they suck up all the racks because they have so many people at different levels. Normally, its not a problem, but lately they've been rack hogs and I have to use a crappy rack in the general gym. The other day, I was trying to find a spot, went in and set my stuff down close the rack I always use (RIGHT NEXT TO IT) went out to water cooler and when I came back this squid had started setting up on MY rack! I just ambled over set my water down and just kind of looked and postured hoping he would acknowledge that maybe he jumped my spot. He didn't. I finally said,"Hey man, how long you gonna be? If you're squatting, can I work in?" Hey said, "Nah, we're maxing today." Now, I outweigh the guy by about 85# and got about six inches of reach on him as well and judging by the weights he was loading, I'm stronger than him. Instead of being a tool bag like him, I just said,"Thanks anyway," and ambled out to the general gym and worked out at the crappy rack where I ended up pulling something in my neck because the pins are immovable and either too high or too low for me. Later, I was in the CF room working the speedbag and one his buddy's came in and apologized for his friends behavior. He said that he's just a noob and doesn't quite understand gym etiquette. Gym etiquette, there's an oxymoron.

Gym etiquette, there's an oxymoron. Is the air conditioning worth it? Just messing around. That's a bummer man. I don't miss public gyms in the least. There is one about a half a mile from us, one of those $15 per month, no contract places with just cardio equipment and some basic weight stuff. I'm thinking about joining for when the inevitable cold snap happens and I don't feel like running in the 20 degree weather. I may try to wait until after January when the New Year's Resolution people give up... Have you thought about setting something up at your house? I'm not sure if you have a garage or not? Here is a slightly dated picture of my setup: I could still park a car in there if I had to, although I wouldn't want to drive in there from the rain and park on top of the Oak Plywood. That rack cost about $300 at d!c#'s Sporting Goods, but you could probably find one for less on Craigslist. I think Sam's Club sells a Power Rack for fairly cheap too. The weights are from craigslist. I've since bought some bumper plates from Rogue. Anyway, 'tis the season. Maybe some Christmas presents to ask for? Some people are just hard to deal with. Trust me, I'm in and out of the airport all the time.

Thanks. I love how they always stick the power rack in the rooms with little to no ventilation. In our old neighborhood fitness center the power rack and free weights were all in an un-airconditioned room with one of those little automatic air fresheners right above the power rack. Not only would it be really hot or freezing in there, but about once per minute that air freshener would spit out some little mist that smelled like flowers. I used to "release my own air freshener" to restore the balance.
