Seems like that is what I've been referring to as "overtraining" but didn't realize it was the CNS. To me, it isn't necessarily that my legs or arms hurt from lifting too much, it is more like I am just dead tired and have no energy or motivation. It seems that if you train a lot at the upper end of your 1RMs, then you can over train your CNS. Also, just training too hard and not resting enough seem to have something to do with it. In addition to that, stress and other things going on in your life can wear it down. Maybe that's why I could work out 3 times per day, every day in college. My biggest responsibility was going and sitting through class and I had pretty much no stress. Well, fast forward to now and there is A LOT more going on. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but you know what I mean. I guess I just never knew it was the CNS??? I thought I was just "tired." This past training cycle was a good example. I took 10 days off at the beginning of December. Slept great, just relaxed. I then purposely programmed my training regimen to increase in intensity over three weeks. It ended with a grueling week including my heaviest 3 Strength Days of the month (and the program) and also a Metcon from Sealfit and a 5.5 mile run. These were the symptoms I experienced:
-Exhaustion during the day
-Restlessness at night (couldn't get to sleep)
-Elevated Heart Rate/Powerful Heartbeat
-Dizziness
-Trouble Concentrating
I'm sure there were other symptoms, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. Not sure if those are symptoms of CNS overtraining or just overtraining (or if there is a difference). I pushed it that hard on purpose, because I'm trying to up my threshold for work/training. I mean, that's the point right? To get more in shape? To be able to do more? Harder/Faster/Longer/Stronger, etc... I deal with this off and on all the time in my training. I used to get it just running on the treadmill. Anyway, thoughts are welcomed.
