Product Review: Rehband Knee Sleeves 7mm
My background:
Track/Cross Country was my most prevalent sport growing up. To say that I never had good coaching would be an understatement. I ran track starting in elementary school and continued to run for the rest of my life. In Junior High, we ran about 30-40 miles per week, all on pavement. Our coaches always focused on the sprinters and just told the distance guys to "go run 8 miles" or something. Ironically, I never even knew there was a "correct way" to run until recently. To make a long story short, I've logged thousands and thousands of miles of running in my life. Almost all of those miles were with worn out shoes and using incorrect form. So my knees are probably the equivalent of a 60 year old's knees at this point (and I'm 35). When I made the mistake of following main site Crossfit WODs for 7 months (with improper form on squats), my knees got so bad that I couldn't even squat down without excruciating pain unless I warmed up for 15 minutes beforehand. My wife used to ask me to get something off of the bottom shelf at the grocery store and I would have to get down on my knees rather than squat down to get it. I was honestly about to throw in the towel on weightlifting when I started to focus on changing my squat form (and started a more sensible training regimen). A few months passed and the pain had decreased to a manageable level, but was still far from good.
I purchased the 7mm Rehband Knee Sleeves right around Christmas time (2014) and have been using them for about 3 weeks now. I wear them for any workout that contains a squat (or variation). Also, I will wear them running sometimes. I can't even tell you what a difference they've made. My knee pain is almost non-existent. I can squat down whenever and wherever with minimal pain. I have barely any pain during workouts too. I would highly recommend these to anyone who has knee problems that seem to be limiting them in weightlifting or other sports.
Sizing: I measured my knee and went with the size smaller than my actual knee measurement. My knee measured one cm larger than the high end of the size I went with.
