Having a home gym is great. With one metal rectangle, a few barbells, weights and some other props, you can absolutely do enough stuff to keep you in fantastic shape. However, one of the things that seems to be missing from my gym is a good way to strengthen my lower back, which I've had a lot of problems with so far this year and feel that if I don't do something about it, I may be hanging up my weightlifting shoes. I'm thinking of getting a GHD. This way I can do back and hip extensions (weighted if I want), and also GHD Sit-ups. I guess you can work your obliques on that too, but haven't thought about those in years. The prices for a good one (from Rogue, etc.) seem to start North of $500. I guess my question is, do you think that is a worth while investment?

All of which have over a 8 point out of 10 rating on bodybuilding.com these you could do with what you have. www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/finder/lookup/filter/muscle/id/5/muscle/lower-back

I used to do Good Mornings a lot and those started killing my back. I think it is something about bending over while supporting all of that weight with your back. I prefer lower back exercises where your lower body is fully supported, or not heavily involved in the movement. The only machine I used to use at our old fitness center was the lower back machine. That thing was amazing for my back. Don't know, the GHD seems to offer a lot more than even back as you can use it for every area of your core and hold weights if you want.

That always seems to be the limiting factor. For a while I was doing them leaning over my wooden box and that really hurts whatever part of your body is on the edge of the box. My bench wouldn't work well either for that as it has supports that come up on either side of it. Most people would probably just say, "yeah! Go ahead and get it!", but you don't. I appreciate that Mike.

I appreciate that Mike. thats just alot of cash to spend in the lower back. I mean there are plenty of floor routines for the lower back but i assume you want to be able to apply weight. If you have a bossu ball (doubtful) you can do hypers on those or just supermans on the ground which is just body wight. www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/detail/view/name/weighted-ball-hyperextensionwww.bodybuilding.com/exercises/detail/view/name/supermanThe main i use for lower back is deadlift. other than that i dont hit it much because im going for that greek god look like steve reeves a very old body builder/actor. Lower back makes you look bulkier

I used to do them on a ball but my ball got a leak and supermans just piss me off. I just want to walk up to something and do them. I don't know... You're right about DLs. That is the main issue with my lifting but I can't give it up. It is too important to my goals. I know you're in it more for the physique stuff. I'm in it more for just being a hairy beast.

Well, I'll say go for it. Check out Roman chair sit up stands. They may work and be cheaper than GHD stuff since that name is associated with CrossFit and calls for a higher price as a result.

Yeah, you can get a roman chair (the cheaper version) for a lot less money. Maybe I should go that route instead. After all, there are plenty of options for abdominal exercises. It's lower back that I'm really trying to target. Great point.
